pARTners tour

A letter from Annie Burbidge-Ream

Dear Docents,

How is it possible that another year of pARTners is coming to a close? Time really does fly when you are having fun looking at and discussing art! I want to thank each of you for participating in the pARTners program. Because of you pARTners has been an important part of UMFA gallery programming for over 34 years! Serving over 2,500 fourth graders across Salt Lake City School District twice a year through engaging museum experiences could not be done without your dedication, thoughtfulness, and artfully crafted tours. Thank you for your hard work and let's keep it going!

I hope you enjoyed the themes of Balance and Storytelling, using this year's curricula to fuel interesting conversations and look at the diverse and wonderful objects found in our galleries in a new way. In May, Katie will be sending out evaluations to pARTners teachers and docents for feedback about how the program is running and how we can continue making it exciting, responsive, and aligned with fourth grade learning. Please look for that email in your inboxes so we can receive your valuable insights.

Lastly, even though pARTners is ending for the school year, we are already busy working on next year's curriculum. In the fall, we will highlight Landscape in the UMFA by focusing on the exhibition British Passion for Landscape: Masterpieces from the National Museum Wales (August 29 - December 13, 2015) and other incredible landscapes from our permanent collection. It is going to be an amazing opportunity using these wonderful works as our inspiration. New to the pARTners program, we will launch a teacher professional development series each semester of pARTners. We think this exciting new addition will integrate UMFA tours into classroom learning in a more in-depth way and hopefully further engage teachers and students with the myriad ideas represented between the Museum's walls.

Thank you again for all that you do. I'm already looking forward to next year.
