Art Museum Day and Third Saturday for Families:
Art is 100 Anniversary Finger Puppets
Saturday, May 17 | 1-4 pm
The UMFA will celebrate the Association of Art Museum Directors' (AAMD) fifth annual Art Museum Day with free admission to the galleries throughout the day and our Third Saturday family art-making program in the afternoon. The University of Utah and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts have been collecting and exhibiting portraits for 100 years. During this free Third Saturday event, families will use portraits of fantastic people and their costumes as inspiration for puppets. Each participant will make two different characters from the Museum to help the paintings "walk and talk" and tell their stories. Funded in part by the Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts and Parks Program (ZAP).
Art Museum Day, held in conjunction with International Museum Day, emphasizes the essential role that art museums play in their communities, highlights the value of the visual arts in society, and provides new opportunities for audiences to participate in the wide-ranging programs offered by AAMD's 240 member museums. Visitors are invited to share their experiences on Art Museum Day via social media with the hashtag #ArtMuseumDay.
