Hank Willis Thomas and the Power of Language

The UMFA’s decision to request Thomas’ work from Art Bridges Collection was made for two main reasons. First, the prominent placement of his work on the Highlights Wall in the lobby—an overt signal of the artwork’s significance—allows the Museum to feature this special loan that powerfully activates its mission “to inspire critical dialogue and illuminate the role of art in our lives.”

My name is Ana Maritnez, I am an educator. I have worked with Artes de Mexico en Utah as a collaboration with Wasatch Community Gardens. We implemented the program Sabores de Mi Patria, in which we intentionally brought in Latin individual to the garden. We focused on the Three Sisters, in which we planted corn, beans and squash.
