Creative Aging:
Shibori
A free two-session workshop for artists 55 and better!
Registration Required
Thursday, October 23 and Friday, October 24 | 1–5 pm
Discover the magic of shibori and indigo dyeing at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts! In this two-session Creative Aging workshop, textile artist Jane DeGroff will demonstrate stitching and binding techniques that you will use to create your own original, stunning patterns and designs on cotton. Find inspiration in the textile works highlighted in salt 17: Adama Delphine Fawundu. Shibori techniques share similarities to Garra, a fabric design technique from Sierra Leone, West Africa that Fawundu sources in her work.
All materials provided. This workshop is free for anyone 55+, registration is required. We know things come up, but please plan carefully so we can keep this programming free! Please do not reserve a ticket if you cannot attend.
This fall, the UMFA Creative Aging program is offering three workshops taught by guest artist educators: Offerings of Memory (4 sessions), Shibori with Jane DeGroff (two sessions), and Artist Mediums and Methods (6 sessions). In addition, there will be two workshops, Linoleum Prints and The Adorned Portrait (two sessions each), taught by UMFA Manager of Studio Programs Laura Sharp Wilson.
This program has bloomed with more folks interested in signing up. We kindly ask that you only register for one of the guest artist workshops: Offerings of Memory, Shibori with Jane DeGroff, or Artist Mediums and Methods. In addition, you may also sign up for either Linoleum Prints or The Adorned Portrait, only one of these two per person. We appreciate your understanding so that we can accommodate all those who are interested in joining creative aging programming. For more information or questions please contact Laura Sharp Wilson, manager of studio programs, at laura.wilson@umfa.utah.edu | 801.585.6176.
