Educators look carefully at art.

Evening for Educators:

Wednesday, March 11 | 5–8 pm
Free | Registration Required | K–12 educators only
In-person and remote options available

There are many ways to build a story and integrate English Language Arts with Visual Arts in the classroom! Inspired by special exhibit Storywork: The Prints of Marie Watt, from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation we’ll explore ideas of collaboration, writing, and visual stories. As we participate in workshops and an interactive tour, we’ll learn together to make a more dynamic story.

Educators will receive packs of “story cards” themed by elements including: setting, character, object, and dialogue. Educators will learn how to deal cards to student groups to use visual art as a springboard for writing stories. Teachers will take home their own pack of cards to keep and use as an ELA tool!

Workshops will be presented by Jana Timpson and the J. Willard Marriott Library Book Arts Program.

Jana Timpson is a drama educator in the Granite School District. She will take educators through the galleries to explore tableau and other drama games that help teachers create stories with students.

Book Arts from the Marriott Library will lead a Book and Box Making workshop in the classroom that is also available to Zoom participants.

Attendees will receive 3 relicensure points.

Evenings for Educators is a free program dedicated to the professional development of elementary and secondary teachers across the state. Evenings offer keynote speakers, hands-on workshops providing in-depth instructional experiences, networking opportunities where participating teachers may share strategies and learn from each other, and free educational materials. Each Evening for Educators is unique in its location and theme taking place at galleries and museums around the state. The topic of each Evening is chosen by the host site and is connected to one of their current exhibitions. Evenings for Educators works to provide ways for all teachers to incorporate art into their core curriculum.
