Beyond the stereotypes of “grass skirt girls,” Nā Kamalei: The Men of Hula explores a resurgence of men who dance hula. Winner of the 2008 Independent Lens Audience Award, the program follows legendary master hula teacher, Robert Cazimero, and Hālau Nā Kamalei, the only all-male hula school in Hawai'i, as they journey to compete at the world’s largest hula competition.

Featuring a post-film discussion with Kumu Pomaika'i Gaui, owner and lead instructor at Kēhaulani Hula Studio. Haviar Tuitama-Hafoka, co-founder, choreographer, and musician for Malialole. Aaran Afalava, instructor and choreographer for Feagaiga O Ali'i.

This livestream event is part of the Utah Pacific Island Film Series in celebration of the 9th Annual Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month, presented in partnership with Utah Film Center.
