Confluence

1–4 pm | FREE | North Museum entrance

Explore local waterways in Confluence, the UMFA's latest ACME Lab, and through take-home activities and outdoor art explorations with the Museum and some of its exhibition partners.

Admission is free—as always on the first Wednesdays and third Saturdays of every month—but advance tickets are required. Face masks and social distancing are also required at the event and inside the building until further notice.

Third Saturday for Families: Make a Sketchbook

Learn about water firsthand through a scavenger hunt around the University campus. Stop by the Museum’s main entrance for a scavenger hunt guide, sketchbooks, and pencils to record your findings. The event is part of the UMFA’s popular Third Saturday monthly hands-on art-making program, which has been offered exclusively online since March 2020. Those who aren’t visiting the exhibition can complete the activity at home.

Partner Activity and Information Tables

Gather info and take part in activities from some of the UMFA’s exhibition partners, including Brainy Brine Shrimp kits and brine shrimp temporary tattoos from the GSLI, an audio-recording activity from Framework Arts, a demonstration of NHMU’s iNaturalist app, which lets you help photograph nature in Utah, and information from Seven Canyons Trust.

All ages and abilities are welcome.

About Confluence
Confluence is the seventh exhibition presented in the ACME Lab, an innovative space in the UMFA’s Emma Eccles Jones Education Center that’s dedicated to community engagement and art experimentation. From mountain streams to Great Salt Lake, the exhibition illuminates the idea of water—environmentally, culturally, and historically—through perspectives from six community partners: Ute Spiritual Leader Larry Cesspooch, saltfront, Seven Canyons TrustNatural History Museum of UtahGreat Salt Lake Institute at Westminster College, and Framework Arts.

The UMFA gratefully acknowledges the support of curatorial sponsor Marriner S. Eccles Foundation and lab sponsor The JoAnne L. Shrontz Family Foundation. The UMFA is funded in part by Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP).

Confluence is part of Think Water Utah, a statewide collaboration and conversation on the critical topic of water presented by Utah Humanities and its partners.
