Looking for a free family activity in Salt Lake City? Look no further than the Utah Museum of Fine Arts! Admission to the Museum is free every third Saturday of the month, and there is always an art-making activity for the whole family. This Third Saturday for Families explores the history and art of jewelry.

Jewelry and practices of personal adornment are found in cultures throughout the world. Jewelry can often hold profound meaning for the wearer. In the West, rings can imply marital status, or belonging to specific social groups. A locket can hold photos of our loved ones. Even ear piercings can hold unique meanings and clue others in to someone's personal identity. Jewelry can offer unique insights into the lives and identities of the people immortalized by works of art.

Would you like to make your own jewelry? Join us in the UMFA classroom to experience color, art, and jewelry making! Explore depictions of jewelry in art and make a beautiful necklace, bracelet, or anklet by stringing beads in creative patterns and colors.
