Gather at the UMFA as Power Couples curator Leslie Anderson talks about works created in pairs, called “pendants,” from the sixteenth century until the present day. She will examine the strategies behind artists’ adoption of this paired format, such as desires to express gender roles and social hierarchy; the passage of time and the continuity of space; and ideas similar and dissimilar.
